The privacy of The Co-operative Bank's customers is very important to us, and how we deal with personal information is outlined in our terms and conditions. We hope the way in which we gather and use your personal information addresses and respects any concerns you may have:

We will only use the personal information we gather:

  • In the normal course of our business to provide the products and services you have requested.
  • To identify you when you contact us.
  • To determine if we can offer you a better service or more relevant products.
  • To send you e-mail updates of service changes which are important to you or which we feel may be of interest to you.
  • For credit assessment, to review the conduct of and to administer/operate your accounts.
  • For statistical analysis, including automated techniques (eg behaviour and credit scoring) and to monitor and analyse our business.

We will disclose your personal information only to:

  • Our agents and sub-contractors to administer and operate your account or to conduct our business.
  • The insurer of any payment or card protection cover which you take out in connection with your account.
  • Our licensed credit reference agency who may keep a record of any search we make and your personal information may be shared with and used by other lenders in assessing applications from you or members of your household.
  • Any person to whom we transfer our rights or obligations under this agreement.
  • For debt tracing or fraud prevention.
  • To help desk advisers, minicom/typetalk operators or their equivalent.
  • If required or compelled to do so by law.

Cookies

A cookie is a piece of information sent to your computer when you access a website. Cookies come in two forms, permanent and temporary.

The Co-operative Bank website uses permanent cookies to:

  • Identify the link you used to find our site
  • Check which browser you use so that we can make sure our site and services work well on your computer
  • Monitor traffic on our website

The Co-operative Bank Internet Banking service also uses temporary cookies to:

  • Form part of our security process, by identifying your computer by our Internet Banking service
  • Capture information about how you navigate through our forms and screens for statistical purposes only

Temporary cookies are removed when you close down your browser. Our policy on cookies is that we do not pass on, or sell, details to any other company.

Disabling cookies

By adjusting the settings of your browser, you can choose to accept or refuse cookies from the sites that you visit. You can also decide to be informed when one is about to be placed on your computer.

Please note that if you disable cookies, you will not be able to use Internet Banking and many of the tools within the Co-operative Bank website

Using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, 7 & 8
Click on:

  • Tools
  • Internet Options
  • Privacy
  • Advanced
  • Override Automatic Cookie handling
  • Disable First Party Cookies
  • Disable Third Party Cookies
  • Untick Always allow session cookies
  • Click OK
  • Click OK again

Using Firefox 3
Click on:

  • Tools
  • Options
  • Privacy
  • Set "Firefox will:" to Use custom settings for history.
  • Untick Accept cookies from sites

Using Google Chrome

  • Click the wrench icon tools menu on the browser toolbar. Mac users: If you don't see the wrench icon, go to the menu bar at the top of your screen and click Chrome.
  • Select Options (Preferences on Mac and Linux; Settings on Chrome OS)
  • Click the Under the Hood/Bonnet tab
  • Click Content settings in the "Privacy" section
  • Choose Block sites from setting any data
  • Choose Block all third party cookies without exception

Using Opera 11
Click on:

  • Tools
  • Preferences
  • Advanced
  • Cookies
  • Never accept cookies

Using Safari
Click on:

  • Click the cog icon tools menu on the browser toolbar.
  • Preferences
  • Advanced
  • Security
  • Choose Never
