Tax-efficient ISAs explained

ISA is short for ‘Individual Savings Account' and you can invest up to £7,200 in this tax year. ISAs give you a way of investing in our unit trusts without you having to pay tax on the returns you make from the investment. Specifically, unlike other investments, you do not need to record your ISAs in your annual tax return.

However, you still need to choose the funds you want to invest in within an ISA. Our Fund Finder can help you to get started.

Who are they suited to?

Investing in unit trusts through ISAs should be considered by someone with savings which can be put away for the medium to long term. Of course, the longer you can keep your investment, the greater the potential for better returns. But remember, your capital is not guaranteed and the value can go down as well as up.

For more information on ISAs, read 'Our unit trust and ISAs' guide. You can also find out about the ISA rule changes.

Cash ISAs

Cash ISAs offer deposit-based savings that don't invest in stocks and shares.

Please note that we no longer offer new cash ISAs through Co-operative Investments and no longer accept deposits in the CIS cash ISA. If you would like to take out a new cash ISA, please contact The Co-operative Bank, on 0800 126 000 for more information.

If you already hold a CIS Cash ISA you will continue to receive a statement showing your holdings every six months. If you have any questions, please phone our Customer Contact Centre on 08457 46 46 46.

NEW! - To give your long term savings the higher potential returns that the stock market can offer, you can now also transfer cash ISAs into stocks & shares ISAs without affecting your annual allowance.

Do you have a Platinum Plus (life assurance) ISA?

If you hold a Platinum Plus ISA, you will receive a statement showing your holdings in your ISA statement every April and October. If you have any questions, please phone our Customer Contact Centre on 08457 46 46 46.

Please note that the Platinum Plus ISA is no longer open for new business.
